Welcome

In the Department of World Languages and Cultures at TCNJ, students learn to speak, read, think, understand, and communicate in one or more of several languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Linguistics, Russian, and Spanish.

The study of languages, cultures and literature gives us a better understanding of our modern, complex and multicultural world. Our faculty members represent over 10 countries and speak at least a dozen languages. We sponsor numerous activities such as film festivals, trips, speakers, language clubs, and a wide variety of study abroad possibilities. The Department of World Languages and Cultures creates a dynamic environment that prepares students to become global citizens.

The understanding of another language and culture is a cornerstone of a liberal arts education and is a key to interacting in a culturally diverse world. Come visit us, study one of the languages we offer, participate in the activities we sponsor throughout the year, find out about study abroad programs and the countless other opportunities open to you when you study another language!
